Our body consumes calories while we sleep. Our body is also cleansing itself and rejuvenating and it takes energy to do so.
Lean body mass (muscle) works for you while body fat is just added weight to be carried around.
You might be surprised to find out what your lean body mass ratio is. It's important to know and important to have lots of it!
Here are a few reasons...
- During illness the body uses its muscle mass for the extra protein needed for the immune system. Burn victims can use up to 4 grams per pound of body weight (inbodyusa.com) trying to heal itself. (most people barely eat ".5" grams of protein per pound of body weight on a regular basis)
- Lean body mass (muscle) helps keep bones and joints strong as we age, hopefully helping to prevent osteoporosis. You may think you have enough muscle for this but most do not have as much as they think.
- "for every 10% increase in skeletal muscle mass, there was an 11% decrease in insulin resistance". Gaining more muscle mass can decrease your chance for type 2 diabetes. (inbodyusa.com)
- Increasing your lean body mass (muscle) can increase your BMR (basal metabolic rate) which means you're burning more calories while at rest.
